For a dozen years now, the Ian Miller-designed Raider series of spin rods have been delivering scintillating casting and fish fighting performance to Australian anglers from Tassie to Darwin — and just about every fishing destination in between. Over time, the range has continued to grow as tackle and techniques have changed and new ones have been developed. The lineup has been given an exciting freshen-up for the 2016 season, with new cosmetics, custom Shimano reel seats, ergonomically-shaped EVA split grips where applicable, and Fuji aluminium oxide guides. The blanks these superlative rods are based on are now 24 Ton Toray graphite, combining strength with lightness and crisp castability whether you’re spinning for oyster rack bream or bashing the snags for runoff barra. Some are two-piece for travellers or those with storage issues, but the ferruling system makes no difference to the respective rods’ performance. Like fine wine, every Raider vintage is an improvement on the last.
